The Revolution Won’t Be Televised: It Will Be Ustreamed from Your Smartphone

aronets tweet

As a swarm of police invaded the thousands of Ukranian protestors before his very eyes, citizen broadcaster Aronets realized he had to take action. With no TV station crew or news reporters in sight, the world sat unaware as a nation demanded change from their government, and faced fierce retaliation. Before your imagination takes this story into Rambo mode, or any McGyver tactics to save the day, Aronets utilized a device each of use in our everyday lives (sorry James Bond). By simply using his smart phone and the Ustream Broadcaster App, Aronets placed a bright spotlight on the political unrest currently escalating in the Ukraine. LIVE. Before you scoff at the notion of live news, remove from your mind the traditional image of a rain soaked TV reporter being whisked away by strong storm winds. Thanks to technology, and the power of social media, not only can breaking events spread quickly via word of mouth, we now have the privilege to witness history through the eyes of the common man. In real time. This unprecedented, instantaneous access to the world is a concept assisting citizens of various nations, by giving transparency to their plights for democracy.

Live Video is Reshaping the Ad Game – Here’s How to Make it Work for Your Brand

What does Martha Stewart, Playstation, Salesforce, HBO’s True Blood and radio station Hot97 have in common? Enter the PS4… So What?

PS4_share

Exactly seven years ago, Sony dramatically changed the gaming landscape with the launch of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console. Fast-forward to the present, and Sony is uniquely-positioned to repeat history with the launch of the PlayStation 4 (PS4).

One of the most important features of the PS4 will be its live video streaming capabilities, with both Ustream and Twitch integrated into the console. It’s a game-changing feature (literally), and earlier this year, I chatted with EngadgetForbes, and The Wall Street Journal about the potential for the PS4 to become the “modern day cable box.”

Who Put The Consumer In My Enterprise?

Consumerization, the growing tendency for new technology to emerge first in the consumer market and then spread into the enterprise sector, has and will continue to pave the way for innovation. What first started as “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device), has led to the harsh (yet exciting) realization by enterprise companies that software in today’s constantly connected world needs to be both easy to use AND easy to the eye.

At Ustream, we’ve also experienced consumerization, and I’m happy to say that — as a result of all the hard work from our Ustreamers across the globe — the dual notions of “easy to use” and “easy to the eye” can indeed co-exist in this live video streaming world we thrive in. We’ve got a ton of work to do in order to meet the growing needs of our customers, but we can certainly credit our early adopters (largely consumers) and plan to continue to improve the user experience.

Live Video Meets Public Relations and Advertising: How to Extend Your Reach and Win New Customers

Last week Ustream’s SVP of Marketing, David Thompson, and the Vice President of Digital & TV Entertainment at Emmis NY, Lin Dai, hosted a workshop at PRSA’s 2013 International Conference in Philadelphia titledLive Video Meets PR and Advertising: How to Extend Your Reach and Win New Customers.”  It became clear during the workshop that publicists are interested in integrating live video into their publicity plans, but many of them either didn’t know where to start, or they already had a plan, but weren’t sure how to get the best ROI.  Integrating video into your B2B and B2C plans has been such a hot topic lately; we’re fielding inquiries like these more and more lately. And because we get questions like these so often, I decided to write an article highlighting David and Lin’s five points for how to seamlessly integrate live video into your publicity plan.
