That’s a wrap! Last week, IBM concluded another successful IBC Show in Amsterdam— showcasing its AI-powered and cloud-based solutions for broadcasters worldwide. Amid the backdrop of next-level industry innovation, IBM Watson Media and The Weather Company showcased solutions focusing on engagement and automation services.
IBM video streaming customers shared best practices at a customer event in San Francisco, with more events to be staged in Singapore, Chicago, New York, and Dallas
Live video is so exciting because no one knows what will happen—and just about everything will happen, over time. Expect things to break.
This was the consensus among the customers and practitioners who attended the first IBM Cloud Video Enterprise Video Idea Exchange, on February 9 in San Francisco.
The idea for the event came from a customer on the video team at a top hospitality company. The team stages frequent internal and external broadcasts, and they wanted to talk with other IBM video streaming customers to identify best practices for fail-proofing live-streamed events. The top tip, not surprisingly, was to have redundancies for every component, from internet service provider to encoder.

Ustream + IBM are planning a lot of great sessions, but there is more to see at NAB. Check out some of the sessions that we are excited for that give you a sneak peek into the direction that the broadcasting industry is headed. Here are some of the talks we are looking forward to at NAB this year that the live streaming community shouldn’t miss:
This session is presented by NewTek, manufactures of the TriCaster encoder, who are bringing together IP leaders in order to discuss where the broadcast industry might be headed in the future. The segment will include looking at today’s IT technology before looking toward where live production might shift in the years to come.
Produced in sponsorship with Cisco, this panel attempts to predict disruptions that will occur to transform the media landscape, similar to the drastic change that occurred to the camera market where consumer friendly video cameras continue to improve in both quality and decrease in size. This panel is a bit more media focused, but there is a high probability the discussion will be relevant to broadcasters outside of this industry.
Sponsored by Ericsson, this super session looks at how the current ramp up toward improved video quality is shaking out at the consumer level. It then dives into a panel featuring people from production houses, agencies, broadcasting, and manufacturing who forecast where video is headed in the future.
We look forward to seeing you there, and in the meantime VIVA LAS VEGAS!
From April 16th through the 21st, the Las Vegas Convention Center will be taken over by 100,000 video professionals and content creators from 150+ countries looking for the chance to get hands-on experience with emerging technologies and the latest innovations in video production and delivery. NAB 2016 is right around the corner, and Ustream has had the privilege of attending the big event 4 years in a row. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights and the history of Ustream at NAB.
Ustream started our presence at NAB way back in 2012 by providing live coverage for our partners at NewTek, TWiT & Panasonic, and combined all of the action into one super channel that helped viewers keep up on all of the excitement at the show.
The theme of NAB 2013 was the evolution of broadcast media and how social media and consumer engagement are changing the industry landscape. Ustream’s CEO & Founder, Brad Hunstable, had the pleasure of hosting a session about the “Reinvention of Live Media” that went into depth about how Ustream stays ahead of the curve of the new age of real time consumer behavior. We also sponsored the Technology Awards Luncheon, where the National Association of Broadcasters gave recognition to some of the most innovative people in the video community.
In 2014, Teradek broadcasted coverage from NAB and updated online audiences on the latest and greatest announcements from the world’s largest broadcast equipment manufacturers and industry influencers. The live show was streamed exclusively on Ustream for 32 hours over the course of 4 days and offered Spanish captioning for the very first time. Special segments were provided by a variety of partners, including Streaming Media, Philip Bloom, & Broadcast Beat, who each offered their own unique perspective on the industry and provided a well-rounded report of everything happening on the show floor.
NAB 2015 was also the debut of the Online Video Conference, where executives from digital media firms gathered to discuss issues such as online original content, the migration to over-the-top (OTT) content and online advertising metrics. This set the stage for Ustream to show off our latest solution for marketers, Ustream Pro Broadcasting Video Marketing Module, along with our platforms for internal communicators and broadcasters: Ustream Align and Ustream Pro Broadcaster in addition to being the exclusive onsite live streaming provider for clients such as Teradek, Maxon, Sony, Adobe and JVC.
What does Ustream have in store for NAB 2016? Well, you are going to have to join us in Las Vegas to find out! Register today using the code “LV7669” to get access to the show for free until April 1st. We look forward to seeing you there!
IBM Interconnect is the premiere event to learn how to get the most out of your existing investments with hands-on training in cloud and mobile solutions built for security, powered by AI (artificial intelligence), and equipped with advanced analytics. And now that Ustream is a part of the Cloud Video Services unit, we had the privilege of being a part of the event.
In addition to having the opportunity to meet our new IBM friends & family face to face, we were also excited for the chance to get hands on expierence and an insiders look into some of the amazing technology that IBM is a part of. From dancing robots to a BB8 droid that you can control with your mind, the future of IBM is evolving. We may be a bit biased, but the biggest stars of the show were located in the Cloud Video Services unit, specifically the folks at Clearleap, Aspara, Cleversafe and of course Ustream.
We were also honored to have the opportunity to hit the main stage at the Cloud/Mobile expo Theatre, where our VP of Product, Alden Fertig addressed the community and discussed how video has become a global medium for communication for entertainment, information and applications with his presentation: “Video Has Become a ‘First Class’ Data Type in Enterprise”.
Thank you for joining us at IBM Interconnect 2016, and we look forward to seeing you again next year! In the meantime, reach out to one of our sales representatives to learn more about how the IBM Video Cloud can help you and your business make the big leap into the future.
CES 2016 has wrapped up and this one was quite the show. Aside from the smart cars, televisions, virtual reality and wearable gadgets, we also saw companies push the envelope with connected home devices and technology that promises to not only make our lives easier, but to also learn as we grow. And just like years in the past, Ustream was again the place to be to stay up on all the action and exclusive streaming content. Companies like IBM, Sony and Samsung all reach out to Ustream to help broadcast their announcements live to the world, and here are a few highlights from this years biggest keynotes:
IBM’s Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometti put the spotlight on Watson and introduced several integrations that will usher in the new AI (artificial intelligence) era. IBM has partnered with Softbank to bring intuition to their emotive robot “Pepper”, teamed up with Medtronic to introduce advanced ways to help patients manage their symptoms, connected Whirlpool to the cloud to operate more efficiently, but most notably is their integration with Under Armours’ wearable technology. Watson will soon be able to analyze your daily activity, sleep, and food data and give an insight that compares you with other members in the Under Armour community that are just like you. Learn more about IBM’s plans for the future by tuning into their full keynote on Ustream.
Aside from a variety of portable speakers and headphones, the biggest news from Sony’s keynote was their upcoming HDR TV line up and most importantly their new 4K camcorder. The FDR-AX53 handycam is the latest addition to Sony’s consumer camcorder line up and packs quite a punch for the price point. The AX53 combines the convenience of portability with the power of their Exmor R CMOS sensor, 1.6x larger pixel size and a 30x 4K Clear Image electronic zoom which extends to 40x when being used at full HD settings. This on top of Sony’s ZEISS lens, brings along features such as advanced aspherical and extra-low dispersion. These features produce accurate color reproduction and some great visual precision, in addition to better reduction in unwanted ghosting and flare from reflections. Find out more about Sony’s upcoming hardware plans by watching their complete presentation on Ustream.
Samsung is known for having a huge presence at CES, and this year was no exception. In addition to the HD televisions, notebook computers and mobile devices that you have come to look forward to, a few additional hardware technologies were announced that were not quite as expected. Samsung’s first product offering in the connected home market is their Family Hub refrigerator that includes 3 build in cameras that takes a photograph of the inside of your fridge every time the door is closed so that you can always see what you need to stock up when you are at the grocery store, in addition to a leather belt that tracks your fitness goals by capturing your waist size, number of steps taken and time spent sitting down and offers healthcare and weight management plans based on your personal health goals. Dig deeper into their CES 2016 line up by watching the entire announcement on Ustream.
Whether you are producing a mainstream keynote for an audience of thousands or a local meet up of a couple hundred guests, Ustream is the leading platform to broadcast your message and expand your reach to millions. Find out why our friends over at IBM, Sony & Samsung count on us for our reliable network and live streaming technology year after year. We are waiting to hear from you, drop us a line and schedule a time to chat with one of our account executives.
