In addition to having the opportunity to meet our new IBM friends & family face to face, we were also excited for the chance to get hands on expierence and an insiders look into some of the amazing technology that IBM is a part of. From dancing robots to a BB8 droid that you can control with your mind, the future of IBM is evolving. We may be a bit biased, but the biggest stars of the show were located in the Cloud Video Services unit, specifically the folks at Clearleap, Aspara, Cleversafe and of course Ustream.
We were also honored to have the opportunity to hit the main stage at the Cloud/Mobile expo Theatre, where our VP of Product, Alden Fertig addressed the community and discussed how video has become a global medium for communication for entertainment, information and applications with his presentation: “Video Has Become a ‘First Class’ Data Type in Enterprise”.

CES 2016 has wrapped up and this one was quite the show. Aside from the smart cars, televisions, virtual reality and wearable gadgets, we also saw companies push the envelope with connected home devices and technology that promises to not only make our lives easier, but to also learn as we grow. And just like years in the past, Ustream was again the place to be to stay up on all the action and exclusive streaming content. Companies like IBM, Sony and Samsung all reach out to Ustream to help broadcast their announcements live to the world, and here are a few highlights from this years biggest keynotes:
IBM’s Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometti put the spotlight on Watson and introduced several integrations that will usher in the new AI (artificial intelligence) era. IBM has partnered with Softbank to bring intuition to their emotive robot “Pepper”, teamed up with Medtronic to introduce advanced ways to help patients manage their symptoms, connected Whirlpool to the cloud to operate more efficiently, but most notably is their integration with Under Armours’ wearable technology. Watson will soon be able to analyze your daily activity, sleep, and food data and give an insight that compares you with other members in the Under Armour community that are just like you. Aside from a variety of portable speakers and headphones, the biggest news from Sony’s keynote was their upcoming HDR TV line up and most importantly their new 4K camcorder. The FDR-AX53 handycam is the latest addition to Sony’s consumer camcorder line up and packs quite a punch for the price point. The AX53 combines the convenience of portability with the power of their Exmor R CMOS sensor, 1.6x larger pixel size and a 30x 4K Clear Image electronic zoom which extends to 40x when being used at full HD settings. This on top of Sony’s ZEISS lens, brings along features such as advanced aspherical and extra-low dispersion. These features produce accurate color reproduction and some great visual precision, in addition to better reduction in unwanted ghosting and flare from reflections. Samsung is known for having a huge presence at CES, and this year was no exception. In addition to the HD televisions, notebook computers and mobile devices that you have come to look forward to, a few additional hardware technologies were announced that were not quite as expected. Samsung’s first product offering in the connected home market is their Family Hub refrigerator that includes 3 build in cameras that takes a photograph of the inside of your fridge every time the door is closed so that you can always see what you need to stock up when you are at the grocery store, in addition to a leather belt that tracks your fitness goals by capturing your waist size, number of steps taken and time spent sitting down and offers healthcare and weight management plans based on your personal health goals. When thousands of online video pros pour into New York City for Streaming Media East 2015, Ustream VP of Marketing David Gibbons will be among the speakers sharing the stage.
On May 12–13, the New York Hilton Midtown will host more than 2,000 online video professionals for two days of content covering the latest in live webcasting, encoding and transcoding, Over-the-Top video and TV Everywhere, monetizing content, and many other leading-edge topics in the online video world.
Gibbons will be a featured panel speaker for “Integrating Streaming, Video Conferencing, and Unified Communications Solutions” (Session B204) on Wednesday, May 13 at 3:15 p.m. in the Nassau Room. Last week more than 100,000 media professionals gathered in Las Vegas to get the latest insights in digital content at NAB Show 2015, sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters. This year’s agenda, which included several new elements, focused on the issues that are shaping the future of new media.
Online Video Conference
For the first time, the event included an Online Video Conference, where executives from digital media firms gathered to discuss issues such as online original content, the migration to over-the-top (OTT) content and online advertising metrics. Among the speakers was Alison Moore, general manager and executive VP of NBCUniversal’s TV Everywhere initiative, who discussed the network’s commitment to providing content across multiple platforms.
Focus on Cybersecurity
Several sessions focused on growing concerns around cybersecurity, and the Technology Luncheon featured a keynote address from John McAfee, founder of McAfee Inc. McAfee discussed the vulnerability of mobile devices as well as how current technology is enhancing data capture.
Teradek Highlights Innovative Products

New Partnerships and Platforms Announced

Ustream CEO Brad Hunstable will appear on stage at two sessions during IBM InterConnect 2015: The Premier Cloud & Mobile Conference.
Thousands will gather next week at the MGM Grand & Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for the event, which features more than 1,500 technical sessions, 42 tracks, 8 streams, 3 general sessions, hundreds of hands-on labs and certification opportunities, and unlimited peer networking.
On Monday, February 23, Hunstable will take the stage as part of the IBM SmartCamp Global Finals to share his insights on entrepreneurship. The session begins at 4:40 p.m. in Room 312/317 of the MGM Conference Center, Level 3. Sandy Carter, General Manager, Cloud Ecosystem Development, IBM Corporation, will introduce Hunstable and pose a series of questions about his journey as an entrepreneur.
On Tuesday, Hunstable will appear on the influencer panel for “When Big Data Met Cloud.” The session begins at 11 a.m. in the Cloud Theater, inside the Solution EXPO in Mandalay Bay, Shorelines A/B (Level 2). The panel will discuss a series of questions about how organizations are leveraging the cloud for big data, including:
- Are organizations using cloud and big data to their full potential?
- What challenges persist in harnessing the power of cloud for big data?
- How has the relationship between cloud and big data evolved over the last few years, and where is it headed?
- Would all enterprises benefit from tapping the cloud for big data, and what are the criteria for an organization knowing whether it’s right for them?

On Thursday, January 22nd, Ustream CEO Brad Hunstable and Steve Vonder Haar, Senior Analyst at Wainhouse Research, will co-present “The Burgeoning Set of Use Cases for Live Video Streaming,” a live webinar highlighting enterprise uses of live streaming video beyond internal presentations.
According to a recent Wainhouse survey, internal applications such as employee training and executive presentations continue to be the most popular uses of live streaming video. However, outward-facing applications such as customer service, corporate advertising and branding, and IT support are all gaining traction.
One of the case studies to be covered will be that of CreativeLive, an online training destination that launched in 2010. Driven by a model that blends free live video with paid access to on-demand content libraries, CreativeLive draws as many as 20,000 registrants to its live presentations … and seven times that number to its on-demand recordings.
