This was the consensus among the customers and practitioners who attended the first IBM Cloud Video Enterprise Video Idea Exchange, on February 9 in San Francisco.
The idea for the event came from a customer on the video team at a top hospitality company. The team stages frequent internal and external broadcasts, and they wanted to talk with other IBM video streaming customers to identify best practices for fail-proofing live-streamed events. The top tip, not surprisingly, was to have redundancies for every component, from internet service provider to encoder.
Need to create a custom page for your streaming content to live on? IBM Watson Media now has customizable channel pages for its video streaming offerings. This enables easy branding or no branding, offering white label video solutions for enterprises. This allows control over navigation and branding on automatically generated pages. These features are toggleable as well, allowing companies to quickly make changes.
Live-streamed video, enabled by a cloud-based video platform, is having a big impact on the business world. That’s the conclusion of a new enterprise video guide, the Definitive Guide to Enterprise Video, a new 25-page eBook from IBM Watson Media.
One example of video’s impact, the guide notes, was at an 8,000-person financial company with dozens of sites around the world. The company faced a sudden marketplace change, and its CEO asked employees to watch a live all-hands meeting over secured, streaming video. The executive described the company’s new strategy in the meeting, and employees got their questions answered through the video platform’s Q&A module in real time. The company pivoted in an hour, leading its field.
Looking for an enterprise video chat integration for internal communications? IBM Watson Media are launching a new chat feature for use with IBM Enterprise Video Streaming.
This new feature, which limits access to authorized viewers through either SSO (Single Sign-On) or email authorization, allows for viewers to engage in realtime and participate with one another while watching internal video content. This feature works with both live and on-demand content and is compatible across desktops and mobile devices, including over the IBM Watson Media for Enterprise App.
Looking for a way to manage temporary passwords that could be used for live video encoder access? IBM Watson Media have rolled out a feature that allows account managers to create passwords that can be used by encoding software, encoding hardware and mobile apps for the purpose of broadcasting. These passwords, set permanently or on a temporary basis, are managed directly from the platform by account managers and access can be revoked at any time.

IBM has prepared an EU Model Clauses agreement for IBM Video Streaming customers to facilitate the transfer of personal data outside of the EU in accordance with the EU data privacy laws. EU Model Clauses are relevant to all customers sending personal information relating to EU citizens to IBM.

The EU Directive 95/46/EC sets out rules concerning processing of customer’s personal data. As the data controller, customers appoint IBM as a data processor to process (e.g., store, transmit, archive) any personal data which may be included in the customer’s content. In turn, customers are responsible for obtaining all necessary consents to include the content (including any personal data) in IBM DBaaS solutions.

IBM Watson Media is launching its new IBM Enterprise Video Streaming secure video app. This mobile app offers a new, more convenient way for viewers to consume internal facing video assets. It greatly speeds up the time it takes for a viewer to access secure video content, letting them quickly dive in and start watching important training assets, executive communication or fulfill compliance training requirements.
Free to download and use, although requiring accessing content from an active IBM Enterprise Video Streaming account, the app is available from the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. It makes viewing internal video content easy and is suited across a variety devices and connections. This includes support for adaptive bitrate delivery, automatically optimizing the quality based on the viewer’s connection speed.
